Major automakers report higher monthly US car sales

Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp.'s North American operation and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's U.S. unit sold more vehicles in June in the U.S. compared to June 2017.

Ford said its U.S. sales totaled 230,635 units for the month, up 1.2% year over year from 227,979 units. Year-to-date, the automaker has sold 1,277,691 vehicles, down 1.8% from 1,301,102 vehicles in the same period last year.

Toyota Motor North America Inc. reported total sales of 209,602 units, up 3.6% on a volume basis from 202,376 vehicles in June 2017. The unit's car sales year-to-date are up 3.0% to 1,189,312 from 1,155,167.

A total of 202,264 FCA US LLC vehicles were sold in June in the U.S., up 8% year over year from 187,348. Year-to-date, FCA's car sales totaled 1,115,476, up 5% from 1,067,362.

Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.'s total car sales jumped 36.3% to 144,981 in June from 106,394 in June 2017, driven by domestic sales of 135,662 units, up 45.5%.

Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. reported total vehicle sales of 414,222, up 6.9% from 387,506 in May. The gain was driven by overseas sales, which rose 8.9% to 354,728 units.
