HP Inc.is joining RE100 as part of its pledge to achieve 100% renewable electricityusage in its global operations.
RE100, a global initiative of top businesses that arecommitted to the same goal, works with companies to help them transition torenewable energy sources and accelerate transformation of the global energymarket to a low carbon economy.
"As we continue to reinvent a more sustainable businessand society, both cost-effective and low carbon sources of energy are essentialto the future and the growth of HP's business," Nate Hurst, HP chiefsustainability and social impact officer, said in a March 30 statement.
The company plans to achieve the goal through a three-phasestrategy that involves optimizing operations/building efficiency andimplementing new efficiency projects; increasing use of on-site renewablepower; and acquiring or generating off-site renewable power to offset "brownpower emissions." HP hopes to achieve the 40% renewable energy goal by2020.
