Japanese internet service provider Rakuten Inc. said Feb. 7 that it will combine its consumer-to-consumer marketplace apps Rakuma and FRIL into a single platform.
The merged entity will adopt Rakuma branding and will be launched on Feb. 26. The company said it will offer a richer lineup of products and improved safety and security features by bringing together both platforms' capabilities of detecting illegal items.
Rakuten said all users will be moved to FRIL's platform, and Rakuma users will be asked to migrate their accounts, along with their ratings history data, to FRIL. The legacy Rakuma app is scheduled to shut down in 2019.
