Nuclear update: US output tops 95% as Watts Bar 2 returns

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability rose early Dec. 15 to 95.15%, up from 94.27% on Dec. 14 and also higher than the 94.23% reported on the same day in 2016.

Giving total production a lift was the return of Tennessee Valley Authority's Watts Bar 2 in Tennessee. The unit was at 24% early Dec. 15 after being taken offline on Dec. 11 due to multiple dropped control rods.

In addition, Entergy Corp.'s Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi was operating at 58% early Dec. 15, up from 25% the day prior.
