McDermott tapped to provide engineering, licensing for Russian ethylene plant

McDermott International Inc. announced March 20 it was granted a "large contract" to provide basic engineering and licensing along with detailed engineering and supply of six of its proprietary Lummus Technology Short Residence Time pyrolysis heaters for Irkutsk Oil Co.'s 650,000-ton-per-annum ethylene plant in Russia.

The company's executive vice president for its Lummus Technologies business Daniel McCarthy describes the contract as a "significant award" and that they are minimizing the project's completion constraints due to its remote location and harsh winter conditions, through "careful planning of the equipment design and specification schedule."

While no exact value was disclosed, McDermott defines a large contract to range from $50 million to $250 million.
