Top banking moves: Metropolitan Bank names COO; CEO named at M&T

Dec. 20

Buffalo, N.Y.-based M&T Bank Corp. appointed René Jones chairman and CEO of the company and unit M&T Bank.

Jones succeeds Robert Wilmers, who died Dec. 16.

Brendan McGill was named CEO of Harleysville, Pa.-based Harleysville Financial Corp. and unit Harleysville Bank.

McGill, who is currently vice chairman, president and COO of both companies, will replace Ronald Geib, who will retire March 30, 2018.

Geib will remain as the chairman of both the company and the bank.

Sunflower Bank NA appointed James Fullerton chief commercial and specialty banking officer.

The Denver-based bank is a unit of FirstSun Capital Bancorp.

Cornerstone Bank promoted Jason Tennant to president, the Harrison (Ark.) Daily Times reported.

Tennant is also a director of the Eureka Bancshares Inc.

Bob Gagne was named executive vice president and chief lending officer of Bank Iowa, according to a press release posted on CBInsight.com.

Gagne previously served as commercial sales manager at Bankers Trust Co.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Bank Iowa is a subsidiary of Bank Iowa Corp.

Cathay Bank Chief Credit Officer Donald Chow has retired.

Executive Vice President Mark Lee succeeded Chow, who will still serve as an executive vice president during a transition period that will end on or about June 30, 2018.

The Los Angeles-based bank is a unit of Cathay General Bancorp.

Phoenix-based Arizona Bank & Trust named William Callahan president and CEO. He succeeded Gerald Schwallier, who was appointed chairman.

Callahan is a former president of Dubuque Bank and Trust Co.

Heartland Financial USA Inc. is the parent of both Arizona Bank & Trust and Dubuque Bank and Trust.

Gabriel Hamani was appointed CEO of BHI USA, the American Banker reported.

Hamani, who previously served as a manager of the bank's branches in the U.S., replaced Yair Talmor, who was named chairman of BHI USA Advisory Group. Talmor will remain chairman and CEO of BHI USA Holdings.

BHI USA is a unit of Israel-based Bank Hapoalim BM.

Bankers Trust Co. named Tina Smith Fritz senior vice president and COO, according to Business Record.

The Des Moines, Iowa-based bank is a unit of BTC Financial Corp.

Beloit, Wis.-based First National Bank and Trust Co. named Don O'Day executive vice president and chief lending and retail officer.

O'Day previously served Oakwood, Ill.-based Inland Bank and Trust as executive vice president of retail and business banking.

First National Bank is a unit of Centre 1 Bancorp Inc.

Amber White was appointed executive vice president and CFO of Florence, Ore.-based Oregon Pacific Banking Co.

White, who previously served as vice president and controller at Pacific Continental Bank, will replace Joanne Forsberg, who will retire by the end of December.

Toronto-based Home Capital Group Inc. hired Victor DiRisio as chief information officer, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

DiRisio has held various IT and supply chain roles in large national retail, wholesale and distribution, and manufacturing organizations.

Gerard Perri was appointed executive vice president and COO of New York-based Metropolitan Bank Holding Corp.

Perri is the founding CFO of Metropolitan Commercial Bank, a unit of Metropolitan Bank Holding. Most recently, he served as an executive vice president and CFO of Orange Bank & Trust Co.

Reliant Bank Chief Risk Officer Alan Mims is taking on the role as chief credit officer of the company.

He will succeed Gene Whittle, who is retiring by the end of 2017.

The Brentwood, Tenn.-based bank is a unit of Commerce Union Bancshares Inc.

Grant Knuckey was named CEO of Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd.'s U.S. operations.

Knuckey is currently the CEO of the company's operations in Japan.

Dec. 17

Robert Wilmers, chairman and CEO of M&T Bank Corp., has died. He has held both positions since May 1983.

In connection with this, the company's board appointed Robert Brady nonexecutive chairman.

Dec. 14

Walpole, N.H.-based Savings Bank of Walpole President and CEO Gregg Tewksbury will succeed Samuel Laverack as president and CEO of Concord, N.H.-based New Hampshire Mutual Bancorp.

Laverack is retiring, effective June 30, 2018.

The move comes after Savings Bank of Walpole announced that it is joining holding company New Hampshire Mutual Bancorp.

Meanwhile, Savings Bank of Walpole Senior Vice President and CFO Mark Bodin was appointed president of the bank, effective July 1, 2018.

Robert Kernan will retire as chairman of Seneca Falls, N.Y.-based Generations Bank (MHC) on Dec. 31.

Current Vice Chairman Bradford Jones will succeed Kernan, and Vincent Sinicropi will become vice chairman.

The Seneca Falls, N.Y.-based bank is a unit of Seneca-Cayuga Bancorp Inc. (MHC), which in turn is a unit of Seneca Falls Savings Bank MHC.

Orrick, Mo.-based Bank of Orrick Chairman William Scott Clark is retiring.

* * *

William Edwards Jr. was promoted to executive vice president and chief information officer of St. Louis-based Midwest BankCentre.

Edwards will also join the bank's executive management committee.

Kurt Thomas is retiring as senior vice president and chief credit officer of Farm Credit Bank of Texas, effective Dec. 31.

John Sloan, who is the vice president and manager of the bank's association direct lending unit, will replace Thomas.

The Austin, Texas-based bank is a unit of the Farm Credit System.
