E.ON secures contract to build 75-MW combined heat, power facility in UK

E.ON SE secured a contract to build a 75-MW combined heat and power facility for DS Smith Plc at Kemsley Paper Mill in Kent, U.K., under a 20-year partnership.

Düsseldorf, Germany-headquartered E.ON will finance, construct and operate the new facility, which will replace an existing plant, according to a March 15 release.

Upon commissioning in 2021, the new plant will help reduce carbon emission by about 36,000 tons annually.

DS Smith, a U.K.-based sustainable packaging solutions business, said the project will help achieve its goal to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2030. The mill produces approximately 830,000 tonnes of paper every year.
