DTE Biomass opens renewable natural gas dairy processing site in Wisconsin

DTE Biomass Energy Inc. on Sept. 12 said it has opened a combined dairy renewable natural gas processing and interstate injection facility in Newton, Wis.

The facility converts raw biogas taken from nearby farms into renewable natural gas. It also receives RNG from other dairy farm-based DTE Energy Co. facilities. The RNG is then injected directly into an interstate pipeline.

In the spring of 2019, DTE started RNG processing operations at Dairy Dreams LLC, a dairy farm in Casco, Wis. The company is also processing biogas produced from Pagel's Ponderosa Dairy LLC, Maple Leaf Dairy Inc., and Grotegut Dairy Farm Inc., and converting them into RNG at three DTE-owned and operated facilities.

Four additional facilities are under construction in Wisconsin and are expected to start processing RNG in early 2020. DTE has partnered with Statz Bros. Inc, Kinnard Farms and Milk Source for their Rosendale and New Chester farms.
