* Singapore's Bomanbridge Media has lined up sales for its nature documentary "Atlantic: Fire in the Ocean," C21 Media reported Aug. 1. Produced by London's Warehouse 51 Productions, the documentary was picked up by Smithsonian Channel (US), France Televisions in France, TVE in Spain, RAI in Italy, PPTV in Thailand and Korea Broadcasting System in South Korea.
* Channel 4 (UK) said July 31 that it is bringing the second season of "The Handmaid's Tale" to U.K. audiences when the dystopian drama returns in 2018. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, the Hulu LLC series follows the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the U.S.
* CANAL+ Group commissioned StudioCanal's RED Production Co. to produce "Monster's Shrink," Variety reported July 27. The eight part-series follows the story of New Yorker Rebecka Broke, a psychoanalyst who comes across an Eastern European vampire when she is investigating the mysterious death of her husband in Antibes.
* Sky plc and HBO on July 27 unveiled "Chernobyl" as the first commission from their previously announced drama partnership. The five-part miniseries will dramatize the true story of one of the worst manmade catastrophes in history and the men and women during the nuclear plant disaster that occurred in Ukraine in April 1986. The series will be shown on Sky Atlantic (UK) and streaming service NOW TV in the U.K. and Ireland, and on Sky Atlantic in Italy, Germany and Austria.
* The British Broadcasting Corp. said July 20 that it has lined up a new musical series featuring top U.K. and international stars to be broadcast live on BBC One. Each half-hour episode will showcase live music performances, sketches and interviews with popular bands and artists.
Online
* iQiyi is developing a children's animation series alongside Nickelodeon's Asian unit, TBI Vision reported Aug. 1. "Deer Run" will be produced by iQiyi and Zhejiang Satellite Television, and will have Nickelodeon Asia parent Viacom International Media Networks as its distributor.
* Hasbro Inc. said July 31 that its new animated series "Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters" will premiere worldwide on Netflix Inc., beginning late 2017. The toymaker said the 26-episode show is the first Hasbro brand to get an original series from the streaming service.
* Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. said July 28 that it is partnering with Liberty Global plc for the supernatural spy thriller "The Rook," which has been picked up by Starz. The series will air on Starz in the U.S. beginning next year. At the same time, Liberty Global will feature the series exclusively on-demand across Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. Lionsgate will distribute the show worldwide.
* Netflix renewed animated series "Castlevania" for a second season, the company said. The original series, which was based on the eponymous video game series from Japan's Konami, launched globally July 24.
