Japan's seasonally adjusted all-industry index fell 0.4% to 105.6 in March, following a 0.2% decrease in February, data from the country's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed.
Construction activity rose 0.3% month over month in March, while industrial production fell 0.6% after a 0.7% increase in the previous month. Tertiary industry activity fell 0.4% in March, after slipping 0.6% in February.
On a quarterly basis, the seasonally adjusted all-industry index fell 0.5% in the first quarter, after rising 0.9% in the last quarter of 2018.
Industrial production fell 2.5% in the three months ending March 2019, while the construction industry rose 1.8%. Tertiary industry activity stalled in the first quarter of 2019.
