Tencent Holdings Ltd. launched a slew of new offerings at its Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Summit in China, TechNode reported.
As part of Tencent's latest push in the education sector, the Chinese tech giant introduced a new education brand and a smart education lab. Dowson Tong, a senior executive vice president at Tencent, said the company's new education unit will have divisions dedicated to individuals, schools, education institutions and education management. Meanwhile, the new lab will explore the use of artificial intelligence in education.
Earlier this week, Tencent participated in a funding round for Prowler.io Ltd., an AI platform based in the U.K.
The company also revealed that it is currently testing a mini-program ecosystem for its social app QQ, with plans to roll out the feature in June on Apple Inc.'s iOS. Mini-programs are lightweight apps with a diverse range of functions that can be accessed from within one app.
Following its acquisition of Swedish game developer Sharkmob AB, Tencent is also working with its U.S. subsidiary Riot Games Inc. to develop a mobile version of the hit desktop game "League of Legends," according to a separate Reuters report.
