Nelnet, Great Lakes receive DOJ requests for information on pending deal

Nelnet Inc. and Great Lakes Higher Education Corp. have received requests for additional information from the U.S. Department of Justice related to Nelnet's pending acquisition of Great Lakes Educational Loan Services Inc.

The second requests from the DOJ were issued under the notification requirements of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976. As a result, the waiting period imposed by the act will be extended until 30 days after the companies have substantially complied with the request, unless the companies voluntarily extend it further or the Justice Department terminates it sooner.

The companies said they have been fully cooperating with the department and will continue to do so.
