Beyond Meat Inc. on Dec. 11 introduced its plant-based beef substitute, Beyond Beef, in Canada.
Beyond Beef is free of soy, gluten and genetically modified organisms.
Beyond Meat added that compared to regular ground beef, the plant-based alternative has 18 grams of protein per 100 grams serving, more iron, 35% less saturated fat, less total fat, and does not have cholesterol, antibiotics or hormones.
The El Segundo, Calif.-based vegan meat processor entered the Canadian market in summer with its Beyond Burger. It also developed a plant-based burger for McDonald's Corp. called the P.L.T., or Plant-Lettuce-Tomato, which is being sold on a trial basis in Canada.
