Sun Zhaoxue, a former vice chairman of Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd., or Chalco, was sentenced by a Chinese court to jail for 16 years for graft, Reuters reported Dec. 27, citing a court statement.
Sun resigned from his positions in 2014 as the company's vice chairman and nonexecutive director after the government started investigating him for serious violations of discipline and law.
The September 2014 report speculated that the investigation might be related to his experience at China National Gold Group Corp.
Sun served as president of China National Gold before returning to Chalco in October 2013.
