Trophy office building in Washington DC to undergo $60M overhaul

Boston Properties Inc., Blackstone Group LP and Equity Office are planning a $60 million renovation of their jointly owned Metropolitan Square office building in downtown Washington, D.C., WTOP reported.

The companies are hoping the top-to-bottom renovation will draw high-quality tenants to the building, which is more than 20% vacant. They tapped Newmark Knight Frank as leasing agent for the property.

The renovation, targeted for completion in 2020, will include new common areas, private event spaces, a new lobby and atrium glass, a fitness center, a tenant lounge, a new conference facility and a rooftop terrace.

The building covers more than 600,000 square feet at 655 15th St. NW and features tenants such as Old Ebbitt Grill and WeWork.
