Short bettors dial up on Calpine, flee from Real Goods Solar

Calpine Corp. had the largest increase in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered power and gas companies between Nov. 30 and Dec. 15.

The company saw short interest rise 169 basis points to 4.92% of shares outstanding at the end of the period.

Real Goods Solar Inc. saw the largest drop in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered power and gas companies. The company saw short interest drop 166 basis points to 11.80% of shares outstanding at the end of the period.

Spark Energy Inc. topped the list of most shorted power and gas companies in the first half of December. The company saw short interest drop 101 basis points to 27.57% of shares outstanding.

Arch Coal Inc. was the most shorted coal company in the first half of December. The company saw short interest decline 81 basis points to 12% of shares outstanding.
