Shiseido develops IoT-based skincare system

Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido Co. Ltd. said Dec. 13 that it has developed an Internet of Things-based beauty system called Optune that provides personalized skincare.

The Optune system uses a proprietary device and a smartphone app to address individual skincare needs in real time.

The app analyzes and saves skin measurement data along with environmental data such as weather conditions. The device then uses information from the app to adjust the doses of serum and moisturizer it delivers to users.

Shiseido said a beta version of Optune will go on sale in Japan in spring 2018.
