Report: Amazon patents ultrasonic wristband to track warehouse workers

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Jan. 30 granted Amazon.com Inc. a patent for a smart wristband that can track workers' movement and monitor their performance.

The patent, first reported by GeekWire, features wearable units with the ability to emit radio frequencies to receiver systems. Amazon filed for the patent in 2016.

The system also provides a method to verify that the correct items are being processed in warehouses. The wearable unit uses sensors to determine the position of a worker's hand. The position is then matched by the software to the inventory item that is supposed to be processed, the report added.

The wristband will also be capable of generating feedback signals, or "haptic feedback," to inform workers that their hands are heading for the right items, the report said.
