Wisconsin lawmakers demand guarantee of no job losses in Aetna/Humana deal

Wisconsin Rep. Eric Genrich and state Sen. Dave Hansen areasking the state insurance commissioner to receive a guarantee of zero jobreductions within HumanaInc.'s state locations if its proposed merger with proceeds.

In a March 28 letterto Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance Ted Nickel, Genrich and Hansen notedthat Humana was the single largest private employer in Brown County with 3,100employees in Green Bay and De Pere. They also mentioned that the potentialeconomic impact of the merger will be relatively greater in northeast Wisconsinthan any other part of the state.

Additionally, Genrich and Hansen cited concerns over theconsequences of the deal on the competitive insurance market in the state. Theyasked the insurance commissioner to work with Aetna and Humana to control drugprices and premiums for Wisconsin consumers and to maintain choices inproviders.

According to a March 29 report from FOX 11 NEWS, the Officeof the Commissioner of Insurance scheduled a public hearing for March 30 todetermine the state's requirements before approving the planned transaction.

Aetna said in February that it has required for its acquisition of Humana. Kentucky Insurance Commissioner BrianMaynard approved thepending deal without a public hearing.
