Thai regulator moves to block websites with pirated content

Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission asked internet service providers in the country to block 36 websites that stream pirated content, the Bangkok Post reported Dec. 27.

The telecom regulator gathered 12 leading local ISPs and representatives of filmmakers for a meeting on the matter. The websites make money from advertisements while illegally displaying movies and TV shows.

Thailand's National Federation of Motion Pictures and Contents Associations reportedly had made requests for intervention from the NBTC, and also filed a complaint with the country's Economic Crime Suppression Division.
