Report: EU bank rules may dampen retail investment opportunities, says ECB's Nouy

New EU banking regulations designed to impose losses on shareholdersand bond holders in the event of a bank collapse could lead to somerestrictions on retail investment opportunities, according to Danièle Nouy, headof the ECB's SingleSupervisory Mechanism.

Speaking at an April 29 conference in Brussels, Nouy notedthat retail investors are more exposed to risks under the new rules, Reutersreported the same day.

Meanwhile, Nouy called on eurozone banks to reassess theirbusiness models amid profitability risks, including low interest rates andsluggish economic performance, Reuters said.

The risks also include credit, governance and sovereign andgeopolitical issues with cyber crime arriving as a growing threat for banks,Reuters said.
