E-L Financial posts net loss in Q1

E-L FinancialCorp. Ltd. reported a consolidated shareholders' net loss of C$61.4million, or C$16.62 per share, for the quarter ended March 31, compared withnet income of C$262.1 million, or C$65.75 per share, in the year-ago quarter.

For the most recent quarter, the E-L Corporate segmentrecorded a net loss of $98.3 million as the strengthening of the Canadiandollar reduced the return for the global investment portfolio.

E-L Financial's net equity value per common share wasC$1,065.78 at March 31, a decline from C$1,089.23 at Dec. 31, 2015.
