Alliant Energy announces acquisition of 170-MW wind farm in Iowa

Alliant Energy Corp. on Dec. 19 announced the acquisition of the planned 170-MW English Farms wind farm in Poweshiek County, Iowa, from TradeWind Energy Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

The $250 million project is part of Alliant Energy's roughly $1.8 billion investment plan to add up to 1,000 MW of new wind generation in Iowa. The plan will help the company supply more than one-third of electricity from wind by the end of 2020.

English Farms will consist of 69 GE 2.5-MW and 2.3-MW wind turbines, with major construction starting in 2018. The project will interconnect to the Parnell-Poweshiek 161-kV transmission line.

Alliant Energy will build and own the wind farm through its Interstate Power & Light Co. subsidiary.
