Sears Holdings Corp. said May 24 that it opened a Home & Life store in Overland Park, Kan., and plans to open two more outlets in Anchorage, Alaska; and Lafayette, La. during the same weekend.
The department store operator announced the planned openings in April. The new stores are part of Sears' commitment to becoming a profitable business after emerging from bankruptcy in February.
Sears said the stores will sell products, including appliances from its Kenmore brand, mattresses and smart products compatible with Amazon.com Inc.'s Alexa and Google LLC's Google Assistant.
The Illinois-based retailer's new Home & Life stores will also offer services like free store pickup on items ordered online and a search bar kiosk where customers can browse products. Members of Sears' Shop Your Way program will also have the option to have their orders brought to them by a store associate as they wait in a reserved parking spot through the in-vehicle pickup service.
