Fiat Chrysler to recall over 11,000 more Jeeps over defective seat belts

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV will recall 11,463 Jeep Wrangler vehicles of model years 2011-2018 to fix defective seat belt buckles. The affected seat belts may separate from the seat frames, according to a letter of acknowledgment dated Oct. 2 from the U.S. Transportation Department's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A seat belt buckle strap that is severed or separated from the seat frames will result in an inoperable seat belt, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash, according to the highway safety agency.

Starting Nov. 15, Fiat Chrysler is expected to recall the affected vehicles to allow dealers to replace their seat belt buckles free of charge.

The latest recall follows Fiat Chrysler's decision to pull 10,789 Ram and Jeep vehicles to repair defective front brakes and steering rack gears.
