Virgin Media to connect 450,000 new premises to its fiber

Liberty Globalplc's Virgin MediaInc. will bring 450,000 new homes and business to the company'sfiber by 2018.

Virgin Media has connected 100,000 new premises to itsfiber, and plans on including another 100,000 by early 2017. The company willcover 250,000 more premises by the end of 2018. The expansion target areasinclude Westminster, Barnet, Greenford, Southall, Hammersmith & Fulham,Twickenham, St John's Wood, Bexley and Croydon.

The company offers speeds of up to 200 Mbps for homes and300 Mbps for businesses.

Virgin Media installed Wi-Fi hotspots in Islington andCroydon in addition to its fiber plans. The hotspots are open for the public inthe areas. Moreover, the company will also bring fiber connectivity to one infour properties in its Project Lightning expansion. Liberty Global and VirginMedia will make an investment of £3 billion through which they plan onconnecting 4 million more premises to its U.K. network by2019, for a total of 17 million.
