Madison Gas and Electric seeks rate increase for 2017

Madison Gasand Electric Co. said April 8 that it filed an application with thePublic Service Commission of Wisconsin to increase electric and natural gasrates in 2017.

The request would increase overall electric rates by 1.7%and natural gas rates by 3.7% in 2017. The proposed changes would take effectJan. 1, 2017.

The company cited infrastructure improvements ontransmission and natural gas system as the main reason for the rate request.

The fixed charge for residential and small-businesscustomers will not be affected by the application, according to the filing.
