Nuclear update: Plant availability stumbles with 2 curtailments

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability took anotherstep back early Oct. 4 as it fell to 83.03%, down from 83.83% on Oct. 3 butstill managing to stay above the 82.81% reported on the same day a year ago.

Working to pull down total production were twocurtailments across the country. Output at Duke Energy Corp.'s Brunswick 1 in North Carolina fellfrom full power on Oct. 3 to 72% early Oct. 4 while Exelon Corp.'s Byron 1 in Illinois saw output drop to71% early Oct. 4, also down from 100% power the day prior.

In addition, NextEra Energy Inc.'s Duane Arnold plant in Iowa wasshut by early Oct. 4. The unit was curtailed to 8% the previous day.
