Total U.S. nuclear plant availability took a small step forward early Oct. 6 to 91.75%, up from 91.36% on Oct. 5 and still much higher than the 83.54% posted on the same day in 2016.
Increased production at Southern Co.'s Vogtle 2 in Georgia helped lift total output. The unit was operating at 97% early Oct. 6, up from 60% on Oct. 5.
In addition, private sources anticipate outages in the coming days at the following plants: NextEra Energy Inc.'s Point Beach plant in Wisconsin, Ameren Corp.'s Callaway unit in Missouri, Vistra Energy Corp.'s Comanche Peak in Texas, Pinnacle West Capital Corp.'s Palo Verde in Arizona and Exelon Corp.'s Byron Generating Station in Illinois.
As of early Oct. 6, seven units remain offline.
