Peru's ministry of economy and finance appointed Hugo Perea Flores to be its deputy economic minister, effective July 9.
The appointment comes about a month after César Liendo resigned from the deputy ministerial position in June amid fuel tax protests that also pushed David Tuesta to quit as Peru's economy minister.
Perea previously served as chief economist for Peru at BBVA Research SA, and has served in economic studies roles at Banco Central de Reserva del Perú.
Perea has a master's degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.
