Banco Macro sued by consumer group over account commissions

Argentine consumer association ADUC has filed a class action lawsuit against Banco Macro SA over commissions the bank charges for account maintenance, the bank said in an Aug. 8 statement.

The association argues that the bank should not charge the fee for savings and checking accounts and is calling for Banco Macro to discontinue the fee and repay all affected clients the sums collected plus interest.

Banco Macro said it considers an unfavorable ruling for the bank in the dispute as unlikely and that such a ruling would not have a significant impact on the bank's assets anyway.
