Nuclear update: 3 curtailments pull down total output

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability fell early Aug. 4 to 97.18%, down from 97.83% on Aug. 3 but still much higher than the 95.82% reported on the same day in 2016.

Working to cut total output was decreased production at three reactors around the country. Southern Co.'s Hatch 2 plant in Georgia saw output fall from 100% on Aug. 3 to 75% early Aug. 4. Tennessee Valley Authority's Watts Bar 2 in Tennessee was pegged at 8% early Aug. 4, tumbling from a prior-day level of 29%, and Entergy Corp.'s Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi was operating at 88% early Aug. 4, down from 99% on Aug. 3

On the other hand, Entergy's River Bend 1 in Louisiana was at 99% power early Aug. 4, increasing from 89% on Aug. 3.
