NV Energy Inc.said April 5 that it exceeded Nevada's renewable requirement for 2015 based on totalenergy sales. The company achieved a 21.2% renewable credit level in southern Nevadaand 31.3% in northern Nevada — above the legislated requirement of 20%.
The company is now reviewing bids to source another 135 MW ofrenewable energy to meet the state's renewable portfolio standard which will climbto 22% in 2020 and 25% in 2025.
"Where coal was more than [40%] of the energy resourceswe owned a decade ago, today only about [10%] of our generating resources use coal.And, by the end of 2019, we will no longer use any coal-fueled generation in southernNevada and by 2025 for [n]orthern Nevada," Kevin Geraghty, NV Energy's vicepresident of energy supply, said in a statement.
Nevada Energy is a BerkshireHathaway Energy subsidiary and also a holding company whose principalsubsidiaries are Nevada Power Co.and Sierra Pacific Power Co.
