New Chinese media rules want less entertainment, more culture

China's media watchdog has released new regulations on TV programming and scheduling, asking local broadcasters to cut down on entertainment shows, People's Daily reported.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television's new regulations encourage broadcasters to schedule more educational content related to culture, technology, and business.

The new regulations want broadcasters to stop airing foreign show adaptations during prime time and enhance their regulation of variety shows. The regulator wants broadcasters to increase the number of original shows that promote Chinese culture.
