Windstream cutting 164 jobs

Windstream Holdings Inc. is cutting 164 jobs, with 25 in Little Rock, Ark., as a part of the company's efforts to streamline its business, ArkansasBusiness.com reported.

The company will give severance and other benefits to employees affected by the decision. Windstream has about 1,450 of its about 12,000 employees in Arkansas, according to the Jan. 24 report.

Company spokesman David Avery reportedly said the job cuts are not concerned with the recently announced merger between Windstream and Earthlink Holdings Corp. The two companies agreed to merge in an all-stock transaction valued at about $1.1 billion, including debt.
