Norwegian regulator grants Equinor extension to use Tordis, Vigdis fields

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate on Sept. 12 gave operator Equinor ASA permission to use the production facilities in the Tordis and Vigdis oil fields in the North Sea beyond their approved lifetime.

Equinor secured permission for the Tordis field until Dec. 31, 2036, and for the Vigdis field until Dec. 31, 2040. Permission for Tordis was set to expire in December 2019, while consent for Vigdis was scheduled to end in March 2024.

The two fields are located in production license 089 and are operated by Equinor with a 41.5% stake. Other licensees include Petoro AS with a 30% interest, Exxon Mobil Corp. subsidiary ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Norway AS with a 16.1% stake, Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd. subsidiary Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS with a 9.6% interest, and DEA Norge AS with the remaining 2.8% stake.
