HSBC sells ¥181.1B of bonds

HSBC HoldingsPlc said Sept. 26 that it issued ¥181.1 billion of bonds in Japan.

The issuance comprises ¥58.1 billion of 0.450% seniorunsecured bonds due 2021, ¥59.3 billion of 0.842% senior unsecured bonds due2023 and ¥64.4 billion of 1.207% senior unsecured bonds due 2026.

The transaction was the biggest samurai bond sale in morethan seven years, Bloomberg News noted in a Sept. 26 report. Nomura Holdings,the top arranger in 2015, expects more European banks to follow suit and sellyen bonds that comply with total loss-absorbing capacity rules, as they aim todiversify their funding sources, the newswire added.
