American Express makes signatures optional for merchants globally

American Express Co. said merchants will no longer have to collect card members' signatures for all purchase transactions at the point of sale, starting April 2018.

The move applies globally to all merchants accepting American Express cards. Once the change takes effect, merchants will still have the option to collect signatures, but doing so will not be required.
