Bank Earnings Preview: Week ending July 22

The week ofJuly 18 through July 22 will be brimming with quarterly results of large and midsizeU.S. banks and thrifts. Below are some of the highlights:

* is the biggestbank expected to report results Monday, July 18, before markets open. The consensusEPS estimate for BofA in the second quarter of 2016 is 33 cents, lower than the43 cents the company earned in the second quarter of 2015.

* On Tuesday,July 19, Regions Financial Corp.and Comerica Inc. are expectedto report earnings before markets open.

Birmingham,Ala.-based Regions earned 20 centsin the 2015 second quarter, the same as the consensus EPS estimate for the 2016second quarter.

For Dallas-basedComerica, the consensus EPS estimate for the 2016 second quarter is 69 cents, comparedto 73 cents a year earlier.

* and are on deck toreport quarterly results before the marketsopen Wednesday, July 20.

The consensusEPS estimate for M&T Bank in the second quarter of 2016 is $2.08, higher thanthe $1.98 the Buffalo,N.Y.-based company earned in the second quarter of 2015.

For NorthernTrust, the consensus EPS estimate for the second quarter is $1.06. The Chicago-basedcompany earned $1.10 pershare in the 2015 second quarter.

* A handfulof big banks are expected to announce quarterly results Thursday, July 21. Amongthose set to report results before markets open are Bank of New York Mellon Corp., BB&T Corp., CitizensFinancial Group Inc. and HuntingtonBancshares Inc.

BNY Mellon earned73 cents in the 2015 secondquarter, and the consensus EPS estimate for the 2016 second quarter is 75 cents.

BB&T reported62 cents in the 2015 secondquarter, lower than analysts' 2016 second-quarter consensus EPS estimate for theWinston-Salem, N.C.-based company of 68 cents.

The mean EPSestimate for Citizens Financial in the second quarter of 2016 is 43 cents, higherthan the 35 cents theProvidence, R.I.-based company earned a year ago.

For HuntingtonBancshares, the consensus EPS estimate for the 2016 second quarter is 21 cents.The Columbus, Ohio-based company earned 23cents per share in the 2015 second quarter.

* , whichearned $1.50 per share during the 2015 second quarter, is set to report second-quarter2016 results after markets close Thursday. The consensus EPS estimate for the McLean,Va.-based company's 2016 second quarter is $1.87.

* On Friday,July 22, SunTrust Banks Inc.is expected to report quarterly results before markets open. The Atlanta-based companyearned 89 cents in the2015 second quarter, and the consensus EPS estimate for the 2016 second quarteris 88 cents.
