Wells Fargo ups lobbying efforts in DC

Wells Fargo & Co. has increased its lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C., Reuters reported Oct. 11, citing interviews and filings.

The company has added more than 15 people to its team in the nation's capital and is planning to hire more. The company has also hired public relations and consulting firms Ogilvy and Federal Street Strategies, and it has focused on touting its donations to various charities and nonprofit organizations in key lawmakers' districts, according to the report.

Wells Fargo launched its efforts to get lawmakers' favor after its fake-accounts scandal broke out in September 2016. Since then, the company has been dealing with the scandal's aftermath, as well as regulatory orders and other penalties, lawsuits and investigations in various aspects of its business.
