Total U.S. nuclear plant availability increased early Oct. 18 to 87.00%, up from 86.52% on Oct. 17 and much higher than the 81.35% reported on the same day in 2016.
Higher output at two reactors helped pull up total production. The recently restarted Duke Energy Corp.'s McGuire 1 in North Carolina was pegged at 90% early Oct. 18, rising from 51% on Oct. 17. Entergy Corp.'s Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi, which was curtailed to 89% the day prior, was operating at 100% power early Oct. 18.
On the other hand, Southern Co.'s Hatch 1 in Georgia saw production slip from 100% on Oct. 17 to 89% early Oct. 18.
