Publicly traded U.S. equity REITs raised $54.44 billion through capital offerings year-to-date through the end of third quarter, 11.6% more than the $48.77 billion raised over the same period in 2015.
During the two-week period between Sept. 16 and Sept. 30, REITs raised approximately $3.64 billion.
The specialty sector, which comprises data center, student housing and communications REITs, among others, saw the most capital raised so far in 2016, at $15.94 billion. The retail and healthcare sectors followed with $8.97 billion and $8.92 billion raised, respectively.
