NextEra energizes 20-MW Ariz. solar, storage project

NextEra Energy Resources LLC on May 16 announced the opening of a 20-MW solar power facility in Pinal County, Ariz., equipped with a 10-MW battery storage system.

The output from the Pinal Central Energy Center will be sold to Salt River Project under a long-term power purchase agreement. The facility, comprising 258,000 solar panels on 257 acres, is the first of three grid-scale battery storage projects slated to connect to Salt River Project's system, NextEra said in a May 16 news release.

The opening marks the largest solar project in Arizona that is equipped with a battery system, according to NextEra.

NextEra Energy Resources is the competitive generation subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc.
