Poland's finance minister to replace PM

Polish Finance Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will replace Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, who has quit her post, the country's ruling Law and Justice Party said, according to a BBC News report.

Szydlo resigned hours after surviving a motion of no-confidence brought by the parliamentary opposition, according to the report. She reportedly said last month that a government reshuffle would mark the midpoint of the parliamentary term.

Citing insiders, BBC News said the party needed a firmer hand to lead it through the elections over the next two years.
