Berkshire Hills Bancorp completes Commerce Bancshares deal

Pittsfield, Mass.-based Berkshire Hills Bancorp Inc. completed its acquisition of Worcester, Mass.-based Commerce Bancshares Corp., effective Oct. 13.

Commerce Bank & Trust Co. also merged into Berkshire Bank.

Commerce Bancshares CEO Brian Thompson and COO Michael Crawford would serve as advisers to Berkshire Hills and liaisons to the local community.

The deal added 16 branches to Berkshire Hills in the Worcester and Boston areas. It also added around $1.8 billion in assets to the combined company for total assets of around $11.6 billion.

As of June 30, Berkshire Bank had $9.58 billion in assets, while Commerce Bank & Trust had $1.94 billion in assets.
