Manulife appoints general counsel

Manulife Financial Corp. appointed James Gallagher executive vice president and general counsel of the company, effective Dec. 20.

Gallagher has been interim general counsel since Oct. 20. He succeeds Stephen Sigurdson, who died in November.

Most recently, Gallagher was the executive vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer of Manulife's U.S. division, responsible for John Hancock's legal and compliance operations.
