Sumitomo Mitsui Financial names banking unit head as group president

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. named Takeshi Kunibe, president of banking unit Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., as group president.

The group's current president, Koichi Miyata, will become chairman of the board, while the current chairman, Masayuki Oku, will become a director.

At the banking unit, Senior Managing Director Makoto Takashima will become president, while Miyata will also become chairman of the bank's board.

Teisuke Kitayama, the bank's current chairman, and Kunibe will become directors on the bank's board.

All these changes are effective April 1, 2017.
