Apex CleanEnergy has joined forces with to supply electricity to aU.S. military post in Texas.
Fort Hood, a 340 square mile base outside of Killeen that serves218,000 military and family, will receive 100% of its electricity through acombination of renewable solar, wind energy and traditional grid power fromERCOT, according to a July 19 release.
Apex Clean Energy plans to 65.8 MW of electricity from thePhantom solar facility on-site at Fort Hood and the wind facility tofulfill 40% of the base's requirements for savings of $168 million over a courseof 28 years.
MP2 will deliver the remaining 60% through traditionalelectricity means.
