Startup insurer Lemonade files for licences nationwide

Peer-to-peer insurer Lemonade Insurance Co. plans to open up for business in 46 states and the District of Columbia during 2017.

The insurer filed for a license in 46 states and the District of Columbia, in addition to New York where it became a licensed insurance carrier in September. Lemonade said it will file for licenses in the three remaining states, Mississippi, Washington and Wyoming, after their regulatory waiting requirements are met.

Lemonade secured $34 million in funding earlier this month to expand its operations.
