San Diego Gas & Electric Co. energized a new 14-mile 230-kV transmission line between two substations in north-central San Diego.
The transmission line was identified as an essential addition to the transmission infrastructure by the California ISO and Gov. Jerry Brown, in light of the closure of the San Onofre nuclear power plant and retirement of coastal power plants.
The $260 million project will not only add a new pathway to the regional power grid to reach additional customers but will also alleviate traffic locally so energy can reach other parts of the region quicker, the Sempra Energy subsidiary said in a Sept. 25 news release.
